about me

Hello!

I’m Claire Saunders, I use they/them pronouns, and I am a first-year student at Carleton College. I am making this site as part of my Hacking the Humanities class. Other than Hacking the Humanities, I am also currently taking Art & Culture in the Gilded Age (my Argument & Inquiry class) and Multivariable Calculus. At Carleton, I am involved with CANOE and Carleton’s a Drag, and I expect to become more involved with other organizations and activities the more time I spend here. My major is very undecided, but I am very interested in mathematics at Carleton.

Outside of school, my passions include creative writing, retro web design, my personal (unprofessional) website, graphic design, tabletop role-playing games, listening to music, and crafts. This past summer, I worked in food service in a fast casual restaurant kitchen in my home city, Wilmington, Delaware.

Most of my background in coding is self-taught, and primarily focused on HTML and CSS websites. Since I was used to website design from scratch, WordPress was a bit of a challenge, but I was able to figure out how to change most of the parts of the theme to my own liking by editing the CSS file of the original BlogArise theme directly, despite my frustration. Unfortunately, when the theme updated automatically through wordpress, all of my custom CSS changes were removed, so it is back to the default theme.
